December 2020 Newsletter
No images? Click here Hi there, Wow, what a year it's been! This is the last newsletter for 2020, and we look forward to kicking off in 2021. I'm around if anyone needs me, see you on the flip side. Bring it on! — Sally Goodbye Felix, Hello Henry!![]() Felix Barnett has been an absolute dream intern to work with the past 12 months. In fact, 6 of those months was an internship and the past 6 months as my online full-time graphic designer. He has been a blessing in disguise, with his complete and wonderful dedication to all things Brownbill. Especially in Covid times, which he embraced wholly and solely and taught me so much I can’t tell you with regards to computer programs and the world of Google Sheets!! This included, but has not been limited to, all the social postings, working on the new website, creating a wonderful newsletter each month, cleaning up all of our files, updating the style guide and protocol manual, adding the gold to the colour palette, dealing with members on the directory, dealing with me and everything in between. He has now completed his Honours Degree at Swinburne University and is ready to launch himself into the world. Stay tuned on to where he ends up. I will watch his career with interest and have no doubt he will make an impact over the years where ever he lands. All the best Felix for a long and happy career and thank you for everything you have done in your 12 months here. Lany and I will miss you. Welcome to Henry Leng. Henry has big shoes to fill after Felix (although Henry is 6 foot 5 with size 14 feet so perhaps I should use another analogy!!! Yikes). Henry is this years intake of Honours Students at Swinburne University and we met online whilst he and a team worked on a project for The Brownbill Effect. He had an ease and demeanour I liked a lot with a can-do attitude, so I thought here is my next intern. ![]() In addition, Henry is a very talented designer/ illustrator and has already started work on illustrating the holidays in Victoria, you may have already seen some of his postings on socials. They're brilliant. I look forward to working with Henry over the next 12 months and introducing him to the creative world. Many of you will speak to him and meet him along the way. So welcome Henry and lets hit 2021 in a positive, organised and creative way. — Sal x James Plowman is now Plowman DesignPlowman Design is a Melbourne based creative studio led by James Plowman and supported by a network of talented thinkers, designers and developers. "With a depth of knowledge and experience across a wide range of industries and disciplines, we create brand experiences that are user-centred, seamless and at the forefront of modern design thinking."Words from SallyWords to describe James Plowman. Talented, patient, problem solver, calm, knowledgable, ideas man, good listener, thoughtful, and on it goes. The Brownbill Effect commissioned James to revamp our website earlier this year. He has been an absolute legend and I think you will agree it looks fantastic. He understood the essence of the brand immediately and never tried to reinvent the wheel that we already loved. Instead, he enhanced it and made it stronger, more complete, and added some invaluable suggestions to our thought processes. Felix worked alongside him providing icons and in-house knowledge to support James. As they say "the proof is in the pudding." If you haven’t already looked at the revamped site please go to www.thebrownbilleffect.com And if you are looking for someone to work alongside you with your own website or graphic design work, check out Plowman Designs — AKA legend!! — Sal Food Photography for Newcastle HeraldIn October, Food Photographer Zoe Lonergan and Lifestyle Journalist Alex Morris collaborated for a piece in the Newcastle Herald’s fifth annual Food issue in the Weekender magazine. This story covers local vegan restaurant Pino's and their newest initiative in one of Newcastle's oldest pubs, The Family Hotel. Pino's started out as an Italian restaurant in Islington and has recently branched out to create an extension featuring American diner food with a vegan twist. Yes, everything’s vegan, but that’s not even the point. Zoe photographed the diner using some of her own table props to enhance the existing diner theme. She captured the meatiness of the plant-based burgers and the creaminess of the coconut-based milkshakes to show how decadent Pino’s can be, even in a dark, dingy old pub! Zoe carefully photographed several styles of burgers, cauliflower wings and tomato sauce squeezes. One shot was so good it made the mouth-watering cover! Life Model Drawing classesBill Wood has been running tutored life modelling drawing classes every Wednesday evening since the start of 2020. Every week he alternates between genders and lines up a theme that he thinks suits best the model. "Influences like what the model looks like, the sort of message I want to convey that week as far as approaches go and the general mood of things all play a part in these decisions. I’m part of the Hawthorn Artists’ society and my Wednesday evening classes from 7-9 pm are the only classes offering tutored help. For as little a $30 for the 2 hours sessions, you receive my advice on approaches and possible solutions to any issue you may have with drawing in general. It's a labour of love for me as many of us work from home, it’s also a chance to socialise somewhat with other artists as well. Feel free to follow my Instagram account to see the work one not only mine but some of my talented students — https://www.instagram.com/billwoodillustration/ 2019 Year In ReviewFuture Boy was grateful to again work with the unbelievably talented Back to Back Theatre on their Year in Review. By your side 24/7 since 1870Aaron Tait was commissioned by Anglicare Southern Queensland to photograph their campaign - "By your side 24/7 since 1870." The brief was to provide 24 photographs illustrating what their people do across the 24 hours of a typical day. "There were many challenges with this shoot, it wasn’t just the working by myself, a basic camera kit, using natural and existing light. I was photographing people in crisis, underage youth, clients with dementia, all while making sure my photographs were respectful, truthful and protected peoples privacy. This shoot was a humbling experience and it gave me a great opportunity to tell the stories of the wonderful Anglicare professionals and their clients. I loved it." "I previously was a military and civilian pilot and have been a keen photographer over the last twenty to thirty years. I have decided to formalise and improve the photographic experience and knowledge I have accumulated over the years at RMIT. I am a very practical person, and I can shoot anything from large format film landscape images to studio-based flash work. In my military days, I instructed on jet aircraft, so I can shoot any sort of airborne aviation-related photography as well as I am extremely comfortable in the air. I have a variety of equipment that include Sony and Canon camera and lenses. I also have a Fuji panoramic film camera and lenses. I am available as an assistant and I am very flexible with availability." Andy Dorman loves all things photographic. To further my photography skills, I am currently undertaking a Bachelor of Photography at The Photography Studies College in Melbourne, one of Australia’s most prominent photography and videography courses." Toni Newman, Toni + Co | Producer & StylistSally Brownbill has helped Toni + Co find many wonderful staff and crew over the past 10 years."Sally has filled each brief perfectly. As our business expanded and changed shape over the years, we were sometimes in the position of knowing that we needed assistance but not always being able to pinpoint exactly what or who that resource looked like. Sally has been able to help every time.” |
