Mayes Jr. Memorial ‘Best of Show’ prize, for a collector’s edition art book, Middlehurst | Middle Earth, by Australian landscape photographer Peter Eastway. Eastway captured the grandeur of the New Zealand landscape on a Phase 1 camera, printing the images in a size and quality that did the files justice. The judges stated that, "The title of this masterpiece is Middle Earth but a better title might be out of this world! Each spread is a visual feast for the senses. In the toughest category, this is numero uno. Extraordinary colour!" On 2 October, at the Premier Print Awards Gala dinner in Chicago, the book was also awarded ‘Best of Show'." Toni talks to TBE about the event. "When Myer Fountain Gate asked me to produce and style their 2019 Spring Racing Fashion Runway Event being held at Westfield Fountain Gate, I jumped at the chance because a. they’re an ace crew and b. it was an opportunity to use all the skills I’d gathered over the years; Stills & Motion Production, Casting consultant, Props & Wardrobe Stylist and Events Manager - a dream job! I wanted the event to be all about ‘Fashion being fun and attainable for EVERYBODY regardless of size, shape or age. I cast 29 ‘real-people-of-all-shapes-sizes-ages’ models (including the FAB Sally Brownbill) and created each of their head to toe wardrobe looks, pulled in sponsors & awesome crew including Nicola Bernardi, Dominic Hook and Precision Creative from The Brownbill Effect, took care of the Child Employment Permits, the call sheet and schedule, created the overall look and feel of the set and event, picked the runway music and MC’d the event. Had a ball. Loved it." Would totally do it again." McAulay’s skill in creating compelling portraits is evident in both his commercial and personal work. He spent two months on location in Nicaragua shooting Survivor, and while there, began his project In My Ute, documenting the hitchhikers he picked up each day. “I’ve photographed a broad spectrum of people, and tend to get on well with everyone,” he says. McAulay was raised in Birkenhead, Auckland, where his father owned a pharmacy for more than 45 years. It was here that he discovered his interests in photography and people." He moved to Melbourne in February this year to complete his photography studies at RMIT. He is a surfer, commercial diver, fisherman and is now pursuing the career of a photographer. He has worked in many different industries including electrical, marine, aquaculture, commercial diving, pearling and worked on the docks. He enjoys coffee and great conversation but thrives most on learning new skills from those around him. He loves coffee, fashion, food, travel, and adventure! Mary-Ellen Lane | Photography AssistantWith lots of life experience from her travels, Mary-Ellen is keen to learn and better her skills at every possible opportunity. She has learnt most of what she knows about food from her mother, who never failed to put anything less than incredible on the table, taste and presentation wise! Hence the obsession with food and knowing what looks good! In-between classes, assignments and working as a waitress, Mary-Ellen plays football in the women’s VAFA league, where the opportunity to sink her teeth into sports photography began. Always being envious of the photographers on the sidelines of the MCG when she was younger, she finally saw an opportunity where she actually could be a part of that world as a female photographer. In the future, Mary-Ellen hopes to be shooting for food and travel publications, as well as being on the sidelines of AFL games, just a few steps up from her local football club environment!
