Be curious, look at everything, and build relationships with people you trust to tell you the truth." NEW WORK FROM OUR DIRECTORY MEMBERSSarah Cater | Creative DirectorSeasonal Trend StoriesCreative Director Sarah Carter talks to TBE about a recent collaborative project she worked on. "With almost a decade of fashion retail projects under my belt, I wanted to switch my focus to seasonal campaigns. I collaborated with a few of my industry favourites, photographer Milos Mlynarik, stylist Andrew Hainsworth and hair and makeup artist Budi Juspandi to develop personal work, while still commercially viable, showcasing our ability to romance the product into a seasonal trend story. As collaborative creative director, the first is for Winter, featuring beautiful soft sorbet toned pieces and elegant silhouettes from Bianca Spender, Bassike, Zara and Witchery. Our story reflects the more alluring element of Winter, rain, with its stunning reflective and dappling qualities. The story has been accepted by Fashion Gone Rogue the online industry bible, which I’m particularly proud of. We’ve also just wrapped a Spring story, due for release in October." Creative direction - Sarah Carter & Milos Mlynarik Tamale Studios | Studio HireStudio Burrito's New Ceiling RigTamale Studios', Studio Burrito recently had a major upgrade. They have installed two adjustable lighting grids that are now available for use.
Amazing for video, use their 2 Laysion LED with Space light attachments for a clean white cyclorama. They also have wireless DMX for the space lights, meaning less time spent on ladders! For photographers, you can also mount whites to bounce or shoot through. They also stock rigging so you can build a shoot through box! These tools will significantly increase options for lighting, shaping and set design in Studio Burrito! The winches mean that riggings and heavy work can be done on the ground for safety. This type of rigging is usually only available in major studios so they are excited to be bringing it into a more affordable space! This video will become part of a series for the City of Port Phillip. Check out the 'Act and Adapt' campaign to see how you could also make a difference. Mark Witte | Photography AssistantAboriginal PridePhotography Assistant, Mark Witte, shares a beautiful image he took and the story behind it. "After noticing that Woodford Primary School only had one flag pole flying the Australian flag, Shayla (photographed) asked her teacher’s why there wasn’t a flag pole for the Aboriginal flag — they didn’t have an answer. Noticing the absence, Woodford Primary got two new flag poles installed so that they could have both flags next to each other. For the photo I wanted to capture both flag poles, however, due to there being no wind, the flags were not flying. So instead I used a second aboriginal flag, held proudly by Shayla." Pixel Perfect Prolab | PrintersHotel Room Renovation Programme"Pixel Perfect was contacted by a good client of ours to quote for a job requiring over 600 prints for a hotel room renovation programme. We discussed the process in detail with the hotel and after several samples were printed, the decision was made to print 5 different images on Canson Rag Photographique paper. We were given a tight deadline, so we shared the job between two
Epson 9900 printers over about 3 weeks, fitting it in around our existing workload. Images ranged in sizes, up to We delivered the prints to Graphic Art Mount a week ahead of schedule and they did an incredible job framing these works. The feedback has been amazing." Bill Wood | IllustratorSite Supervisor"The construction industry is an industry of niche operators, where they often still operate in the old ways of working - like word of mouth. Site Supervisor allows the different disciplines to communicate with one another on a single platform. With their influence expanding to others who may not have been aware of their presence before. Hence evening the field. Think of it being like a Facebook for the construction industry. Based in Australia and rapidly expanding around the globe, this series of short and quirky whiteboard animations (Filmed on their premises in Richmond) captures the simplicity of the idea well." Watch the full video for Site Supervisor here. For more great Whiteboard Animation work, go to Bill Wood’s YouTube channel and type 'Bill Wood Illustration'. You’ll be surprised at what can be done." Image United | PhotographersUniting – AbilityLinks CampaignDean Golja from Image United talks to TBE about the AbilityLinks Campaign for Community Services Organisation, Uniting. "I’ve been working with the NFP organisation, Uniting for about a decade on various campaigns from Fostering to projects about single fathers. This one was for AbilityLinks, (a subdivision of Uniting) who set up community workers known as Linkers. These Linkers mostly operate in regional towns and actively look to prevent social obstacles experienced by those challenged by disability or mental health. With writer Moyer Sayer Jones, I undertook a kind of road-trip to gather stories and images up the east coast to Sydney, taking in Eden, Bega, and Wollongong amongst other places. The real beauty of these sort of image library campaigns is that they merge with a personal experience not only with the wonderful characters encountered, but the time and places around the brief, which, in this instance, lent itself to an 'Australian Gothic' tone." Andrew (Fred) Farquhar | Photography AssistantHigh Alpine mountain ops, roadie, tour manager, entertainment and sports logistician - Andrew (Fred) Farquhar's career has taken a nonlinear course. Perhaps unlike a more traditional photographer, Fred's experience has been gained from a life on the road and the opportunities that it brings. Whether over the back mountain of Whistler Canada or hanging out the side of a touring van; he has always had a camera slung over his shoulder and an eager eye for spotting something different. Favours for friends have turned into commissioned assignments, payment in slabs and tickets to gigs have turned into fully financed campaigns, he now makes his living capturing moments with a camera but still living life to the fullest, though perhaps a little slower than he did in his twenties. He has worked with everyone from celebrities, architects, and doctors through to marketing and publishing groups. There is no formula to Fred's approach, he's led by life as much as his lens and manages to capture moments and images that uncover beauty, insight and a kind of truthfulness that hides there in people, places and things. He loves life and people, and photography is his way of moving in the world and helping people see things through images.
