September 2019 Newsletter
No Images? Click here Hi there, It's finally the end of winter, and we have been seeing some sunny days here in Melbourne over the weekend (fingers crossed it stays that way). This month we have been chatting with amazing creatives (as usual). In particular, we have been chatting with Jason Ross, the Creative Director of Ross Creative Counsel. We have also had our members doing a range of things—running workshops, winning awards, writing educational pieces, working with international clients and even sporting stars. So as usual, grab that coffee, take a seat and give it all a read. Even better, call the people on the newsletter and see how you could collaborate. Enjoy the sun, ![]() INDUSTRY Q&A![]() Jason Ross | Creative Director of Ross Creative Counsel"The biggest change I have seen in the creative industry has been the technological and digitisation of the tools and processes needed to execute our creative ideas. This is a huge benefit. Ideas can now be executed cost effectively and at speed. However, on the negative side, this also allows many clients the confidence to execute their own ideas. Therefore, the challenge for all creative businesses is to demonstrate the value in the creation of the actual idea. This is our true skill, and something that will never be replicated by an algorithm." ![]() NEW WORK FROM OUR DIRECTORY MEMBERS![]() Stef King | PhotographerNikon WorkshopShowcasing the Nikon Z 6 mirrorless camera Stef aimed to show how to work with a creative team, how to pull together a creative brief and communicate it to your team and the importance of experimenting and trying new ideas. Stef is a Perth fashion and beauty photographer available for shoots in Perth and Melbourne. Alex Wallace | PhotographerBeauden BarrettWhen dealing with superstar talent & working to an extremely tight schedule, you cannot afford to waste any time. Driving from Auckland airport into the city studios could do just that. So, to avoid any unexpected traffic delays, we needed to source a suitably large space. One with a level floor, black-out curtains and easy airport access…and we eventually found the perfect site: a church. Which seemed perfectly appropriate for a God of rugby. The images were shot for Panasonic and commissioned by Lemonade Design In the run-up to the 2019 Rugby World Cup, they should be seen everywhere. Including their homepage right here. Check out the nifty animation that's been dropped in behind him. Photography Studies College | Education'Waiting For The Rain'"Mandarine Montgomery, PSC's Communications and Future Students Coordinator, took home the Ilford Trophy for Highest Scoring Print (97/100) at the 2019 Australian Professional Photography Awards last week. Her work 'Waiting for the Rain' is a surreal and haunting landscape referencing drought in Australia. She talks about her award-winning image, the judging process, and why social media 'Likes' are not the same as having your work critiqued by professionals." Check out the PSC blog post for the whole story! Trudy Schuringa | PhotographerV-ZugV-Zug is a Swiss Appliance Company stemming over 100 years in the industry. Their range of ovens and cooktops are top of the range and the most advanced appliances Trudy has ever seen. "I have photographed their products, cooking demonstrations and recipes for their website, recipe cards and instore promotions for a few years. When I first started, they had very strict guidelines to follow the ’Swiss’ look of white backgrounds, minimal props, 45% angle only. The client used to call me ‘Donna Hay’ (lol) and they were happy I was able to follow their briefs and achieve the look and feel they require. Recently, a new marketing team has come onboard in Australia and with have a far more modern approach - we have had a great time using various angles and props." TBE JOBS TESTIMONIAL![]() James Withers | Finished Artist![]() "Working with Sally, I felt in great hands. Being so lovely and personable, it was easy to chat to Sally about my needs. She is across the industry and understands the nuances, which is great when what you're looking for can be quite niche. I also think there is a certain level of tenacity in the Brownbill office that worked to my advantage, it wasn't long at all before the right opportunity came up for me. And I am extremely grateful to Sally and the team for helping me get it. Can't speak highly enough of my experience with TBE Jobs. Thanks! |
