No images? Click here Hi there, Along with the launch of our revamped website this month (that we absolutely LOVE) we also have some seriously hot creatives showing off their work. Enjoy the read and be inspired by music, photography, fashion, videography and digital art. Also, meet new members that have joined the directory and check out their work. What a glorious way to spend some time. Kick back, grab a cuppa and enjoy. Cheers, Sally and Felix Fashion Designer “So, with $500, a sewing machine and a lot of Oblivyism (I made this word up, it means oblivious optimism) I flew across Australia to the cool, black and white city of Melbourne. The vibe of Melbourne was how I imagined Soho, New York to be in the 60s. It was budding. There were young groups of fashion designers and creatives forming collaborations and organisations to push forwards their thoughts and ideas on how things should look in the 80s. It was fuelled by music, politics and world events. In short, for a 21-year-old Perth girl, it was freaking cool.” Nicola Bernardi | PhotographerTETRISNicola Bernardi met Martina Dirce Carcano, an Italian published illustration artist currently living in Milan, two months before he moved to Melbourne in July 2019. From the very beginning, they dreamt of a life together. While distant, they found solace in working creatively together at projects that would see them produce photography and illustration from afar. Between December 2019 and January 2020, the two finally spent over a month together in Melbourne and, after already finishing their first project “Closer to you” (30 days of portraits and illustrations) they decided to tackle new ideas that would ultimately take the shape of physical artworks with their talents combined. Thus TETRIS was born: each piece is an A3 Paper canvas with printed photos and physical (and material) illustration. In each portrait, the two disciplines and styles blend seamlessly to the point where it’s impossible to recognise which is which at certain points. The photography part is 3 10x15cm prints from a portrait Nicola shot, with some facial features cut with a scalpel and then recreated and enhanced by illustration and painterly techniques. The whole series of Tetris can be found (with a lot of behind the scenes material) on their Instagram's. Nico is now based back in Italy with his love Martina. We will miss him here in Australia, but he will be back as soon as he can. And he can still shoot for you whilst he is in Italy of course. Image Workshop | PhotographersFour Honourable Mentions at PX3 ParisImage Workshop photographers Brence Coghill and Sharon Blance scooped four Honourable Mentions at the 2020 PX3 Prix de la Photographie awards in Paris. Brence was recognised for two stunning monochrome portraits, and the creative duo won recognition for a fine art nude series and a lockdown-inspired still life. The image “Still Life with Pears” was crated at home during COVID-19 lockdown using found items. “When the pandemic disrupted things and life became still, we experimented with creating disrupted still life images.” Wet plate collodion photo with hand-induced chemical intervention made by soaking areas of the plate in solvent to loosen and release the image-forming silver layer, causing veiled forms to appear. Dominic Hook | Cinematographer & Video EditorGiant Bicycles X Zwift – Crit Crusher VideoDominic Hook just snuck in his latest project before Melbourne's Stage 4 lockdown, with Michael Young as assistant/behind the scenes. You can find Michael and many others on our Assistant Register! "After a few weeks of pre-production with the crew at Giant and Zwift, things were flipped on their head when Stage 4 lockdown restrictions were put in place in Victoria. Luckily I had spent time crafting a content plan and created a storyboard with photos taken on a scout. This all allowed things to be brought forward and the marketing collateral for the Crit Crusher online race series to be created in the final 2 hours before Victorian stage 4 lockdowns.” Above and Below GalleryBrooke Miles has been a busy lady running both her brands, Brooke Miles Photography and Above and Below Gallery. The last product shoot for the gift range at Above and Below was the perfect match of product photography meets product, all by the same creator! "The local models were perfect and we sourced a house that suited the colours and brand of the product magically. As the photographer I was able to bring the lights and camera skills… it all came together and I was thrilled with the content created." Even with a few months down due to COVID, this year has still been a busy mix of shooting tourism campaigns, underwater and aerial marketing, food and architecture jobs, for a wide range of clientele. This all-in-one photographer can fill just about any brief! Big Ears Audio | Audio ProductionCrystal Cut release their new single 'More'Big Ears Audio has recorded a new song for Crystal Cut. Following the debut of their first single “Under the Sun” in March 2020, Melbourne electronic three-piece Crystal Cut has just released their second single, titled “More”. Continuing on their electronic music journey, “More” was created as a dark electronic pop sound. The infectious bassline fused with a melodic top line explores and delves into the dark sonics of sound. Their second single accompanies their first by continuing to explore and develop their unique tone, by pushing the boundaries of sound and production typically seen in electronic music today. Crystal Cut has paired up with Melbourne born film director, Matt Wilson who orchestrated a global film collaboration that accompanies the single. The videography was shot in pre-COVID-19 Vietnam and edited in Paris, France. The film clip compliments the dark, electronic genre that is signature to Crystal Cut. Even in the midst of a global pandemic, Wilson and Crystal Cut managed to collaborate across a global scale and execute the film to accompany the group’s second single release. “More” is out now on YouTube, Spotify, iTunes and all major streaming services. Zakkia HomewaresA couple of images from Patrick Varney's recent product shoot for Zakkia, a Sydney based company that produce amazing homewares with everything from glassware to ceramic platters, bowls and much more. "This was an open brief – Deborah Mott from Zakkia basically left it up to me to select which products to shoot and how they would be shot. I wanted to offer a different look and feel from all the existing images Zakkia were using in their social media which were very light, bright and modern. So I referenced the Dutch Still Life Masters Paintings from the 16th and 17th Century which have a dark, rich and moody feel. I then had to pull it all together sourcing aged timber, painting backgrounds and gathering all the necessary props and food. It was shot over two sessions one in the studio and the second in my apartment lounge room once the COVID lockdown hit Melbourne. The overall results were very pleasing for me and more importantly, Deborah and her team were ecstatic with the images. There is the promise of more opportunities to come as Zakkia are launching two new ranges of products in the next few months. So I very much I look forward to shooting more in these somewhat challenging times." Helicopter Shark | Photography & Video ProductionWe are a creative solutions company. "I love photographing people whether it be a creative portrait session with one person or collaborating with a team to bring beautiful fashion images together. For me, photography is a way of capturing the beauty that I see in everybody." Front, Back & Sides | PhotographersDaniel Sponiar has changed his profile over to his new business Front, Back & Sides. With the shift towards eCommerce and the growing number of small businesses moving online, we identified a gap in the market to provide affordable eCommerce photography. Small businesses today are overwhelmed by the commitment of a full or half-day shoot, so we developed a business model that has no minimum number of shots, where we shoot contactless and that charges on a per-image basis. In addition to product and styled photography we have also responded to trends and now include 360º and stop motion video in our service offering. Today we are servicing clients of all sizes including start-ups, Amazon sellers, established retail stores and FMCG. Our clients are located all around Australia with them as they can either drop off their products in person or take advantage of our ‘Send and Shoot’ service. Mauro Palmieri | PhotographerMauro Palmieri was born in Rome, Italy but was raised in Melbourne, Australia. Mauro’s work demonstrates his passion for light, working with people for portraiture, beauty and fashion. He has shot for many of Australia’s leading brands, agencies and designers but is an artist at heart. You can see the influence of the great masters of the Renaissance and the legends of photography during the 20th century such as Paolo Roversi, David Bailey, Herb Ritts, Richard Avedon, Helmut Newton, Ansell Adams and to a certain extent Duffy in this folio. There’s an appreciation for the human form without gender norms or inherent prejudice. This work is exciting and seems to evoke a concept of music or poetry through the experience. Mauro seriously shines where there is an appreciation of quality photography and performance. Glow Studios | Photography Studio7 studios over 3 locations. Glow Studios has you covered! Bjoern Boenig | Photography AssistantBjoern Boenig is a Melbourne-based photographer, with a passion for portraiture and landscapes. "When I’m not in the studio I love to travel, especially in the mountains where I have chosen to make my home. In February 2020 I finished the Bachelor of Photography at Deakin University and can't wait to start my career shooting photography full time. A principal theme running through my work is beauty and a passion for capturing portraiture, coming from a willingness to show and highlight people in new and diverse ways. I enjoy working in both analogue and digital formats equally, allowing me to extend my creative spark. Currently, I am looking at expressionism in portraiture, with an eye toward dramatic dance portraits." Rachael Frawley | Thinkerbell“Sally has been as valuable of an asset to us as the people she recruits. We've found our amazing freelance team to support our crew through Sal and we can't thank her enough!” |
